Lullabies

Angel Lullaby

(My Turn on Earth)

Lex De Azevedo

You came from a land where all is

light
to a world half day and a world half night.
To guide you by day, you have my love,
To guard you by night, your friends above.
(Chorus)
So sleep, sleep, till the darkness ends,
guarded by your angel friends.
So sleep, sleep, till the darkness ends,
guarded by your angel friends.

There's one stands softly by your bed
and another sits close with a hand on your head.
There's one at the window watching for the dawn,
and one waits to wake you when the night is gone.

"Pretty Little Ponies"( Dan Seals version)

Hush-a-bye, don't you cry
Go to sleep you little baby
When you wake, you will have cake
And all the pretty little horses

Blacks and bays, dapples and greys
Coach and six white horses
Hush-a-bye, don't you cry
Go to sleep you little baby

Way down yonder, down in the meadow
There's a poor little lamby
Bees and butterflies flitting round his eyes
He's crying out for his mammy

Hush-a-bye, don't you cry
Go to sleep you little baby
When you wake, you will have cake
And all the pretty little horses

Blacks and bays, dapples and greys
Coach and six white horses
Blacks and bays, dapples and greys
All the pretty little horses

Hush-a-bye, don't you cry
Go to sleep you little baby
Go to sleep you little baby
All the pretty little horses

“Sunrise Sunset"

(Fiddler on the Roof)

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset

Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?
I don't remember growing older
When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn't it yesterday
When they were small?

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as they gaze

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset

 Rock-a-Bye Baby

Rock-a-bye baby, in the treetop
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall
And down will come baby, cradle and all

 Hush, Little Baby (Brahm’s

Lullaby)

Hush, little baby, don't say a word.
Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird

And if that mockingbird won't sing,
Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring

And if that diamond ring turns brass,
Papa's gonna buy you a looking glass

And if that looking glass gets broke,
Papa's gonna buy you a billy goat

And if that billy goat won't pull,
Papa's gonna buy you a cart and bull

And if that cart and bull turn over,
Papa's gonna buy you a dog named Rover

And if that dog named Rover won't bark
Papa's gonna buy you a horse and cart

And if that horse and cart fall down,
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.

Love is Spoken Here

1. (Girls) I see my mother kneeling with our family each
Day.
I hear the words she whispers as she bows her head to
Pray.
Her plea to the Father quiets all my fears,
And I am thankful love is spoken here.

2. (Boys) Mine is a home where ev'ry hour is blessed by
The strength of priesthood pow'r,
With father and mother leading the way,
Teaching me how to trust and obey;
And the things they teach are crystal clear,
For love is spoken here.

[3rd ending] I can often feel the Savior near
When love is spoken here.

A Child's Prayer
Reverently

Sing parts separately, then combined.

35395, Children's Songbook, My Heavenly Father, A Child's Prayer, 12-13

1. Heavenly Father, are you really there?
And do you hear and answer ev'ry child's prayer?
Some say that heaven is far away,
But I feel it close around me as I pray.
Heavenly Father, I remember now
Something that Jesus told disciples long ago:
"Suffer the children to come to me."
Father, in prayer I'm coming now to thee.

2. Pray, he is there;
Speak, he is list'ning.
You are his child;
His love now surrounds you.
He hears your prayer;
He loves the children.
Of such is the kingdom, the kingdom of heav'n.

Edelweiss

Edelweiss, Edelweiss

Every morning you greet me
Small and white clean and bright
You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever.

Small and white clean and bright
You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss,Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

Greensleeves Lyrics

(tune of what child is this?)

Alas, my love, you do me wrong,
To cast me off discourteously.
For I have loved you well and long,
Delighting in your company.

Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lady greensleeves.

Look at the Baby ( Janeen Brady)

Look at the baby oh look at her eyes what do you think she can see though she smiles rather strangely and stares at the skies I know she’s not looking at me.

Chorus:

Do you think she is smiling at angels hovering ever so near.  Mayebe their telling her secrets you and I can’t hear.

Look at the baby oh look at her smile.  What is she trying to say.  Do you think she gets lonely each once in a while that angels came calling today.

Chorus:

For the angels and baby were playmates in heaven before she was born.  And maybe they’re lonely for their little friend on this beautiful sun shiny morn.

                "You Are My Sunshine"

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamt I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head, and I cried

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

I'll always love you and make you happy
If you will only say the same
But if you leave me to love another,
You'll regret it all one day

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

Please don't take my sunshine away

Somewhere Over The Rainbow / What A Wonderful World"

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Dreams really do come true ooh oh

Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Oh, somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
And the dream that you dare to,
Oh why, oh why can't I?

Well I see trees of green and red roses too,
I'll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Well I see skies of blue
And I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying, I...I love you

I hear babies cry and I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more than we'll know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world world

In them old cotton fields back home.

River Lullaby (Prince of Egypt)

Hush now, my baby
Be still love, don't cry
Sleep like you're rocked by the stream
Sleep and remember
My lullaby
And I'll be with you when you dream

Drift on a river
That flows through my arms
Drift as I'm singing to you
I see you smiling
So peaceful and calm
And holding you, I'm smiling, too
Here in my arms
Safe from all harm
Holding you, I'm smiling, too

Hush now, my baby
Be still, love, don't cry
Sleep like you're rocked by the stream
Sleep and remember this river lullaby
And I'll be with you when you dream
I'll be with you when you dream

Little House in the Woods

There was a little house in the middle of the woods.

A little old man by the window stood.

He saw a little rabbit hopping by knocking at the door.

Help me, help me, help me he said or the hunter will tickle me red.

Come little rabbit come with me happy we will be.

The White Cliffs of Dover
There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and see
There'll be love and laughter
And peace ever after
Tomorrow, when the world is free
The shepherd will tend his sheep
The valley will bloom again
And Jimmy will go to sleep
In his own little room again
There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and see
The shepherd will tend his sheep
The valley will bloom again
And Jimmy will go to sleep
In his own little room again
There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and see

Hey girl. Didja do a thing?

Today's blogpost is brought to you by my marathon running adorable sister, Megan Vanilla Angela Miller Liston. My mom and dad had a deal that Mom would name the girls and Dad would name the boys. Well, my parents had 6 girls before they had a boy. My Dad gave my brother many of the names he had been saving-Hans Peter Robert. The next child was, you guessed it, another girl. Dad felt he had gotten the naming shaft so took it upon himself to use his creativity and give Megan more than the 2 agreed upon names. I mean, Megan Angela was nice, but what if she had the name Megan Vanilla, as in nutmeg and vanilla? So this beautiful girl received 3 names-2 beautiful and 1 fun. And it suits her perfectly because she is beautiful and fun and strong and determined and does not stop when things get hard or scary.

Because of her, my other beautiful sister, Mary, and I were able to experience the amazing event called, "The Boston Marathon," held on Patriot's Day in the Cradle of Liberty. Let me tell you, it's a big deal. 30,000 of the fastest marathon runners in the world run from Hopkinton to Boyles Street in Boston. The runners can be identified by their Boston Marathon jackets but also their lean physique and the glint in their eye. Everyone in the city was welcoming, asking questions like, is this your first marathon, where are you from, what wave are you in? I mean, no one asked me if this was my first marathon, but they asked my sister. I loved the stories of what each runner did to get there. There were some who earned the opportunity to run by raising money for certain charities- not a little money. I heard $6,000 was required, but the 2 charity runners I met had raised $33,000 and $40,000 respectively. The other runners earned their spots by running a marathon under the qualifying time. This was my little sis, the girl who didn't even start running until after she was 30. The girl who has 5 children and the whatever it takes to get to that place. I'm not sure what it is. I don't have it.

I'll tell you what though, I had nothing but respect as I watched her get ready for the big run. Of course she had trained all year. She did a long run the week before and went off sugar for a while. When she arrived in Boston on Friday she admitted she had a T-band injury and a little cough. We took it easy and just rested and went to the Farmer's Market for fruit and Quincy's market for bagels. Soup was the order of the day. Saturday we all went to the expo so she could get her packet and we could be sold products from vendors targeting the kind of people who would run 26.2 miles. Friday or Saturday night (the days blend) she contracted a fever to go with the cough. It was clear to me there was only one thing to do-skip the race. It just goes to show how little I know about the fire and spirit of a marathon runner who came to get to the finish line. She drank lots of chamomile tea and smart water, went to church,  and thought good thoughts. Sunday night, she laid out her running clothes, shoes, bib, tape, headband, sunglasses, water, bandaids and went to sleep. Monday morning off she went to catch the bus to Hopkinton. Mary and I rode the commuter train to Framingham, Wellesley Square and the Finish Line. We watched our brave runner run her 8.30 minute mile on the B.A.A. app 26 times. When we picked her up at the Family meeting area all wrapped in her mylar blanket and totally spent, we were so proud. We got her back to the hotel and she peeled off her socks and shoes. She looked at the bulging blood blister on her little toe and said, I was wondering why that hurt. And that is one of the reasons Megan Vanilla Angela Miller is my hero. The following is her take on the experience:

Recently I had the opportunity of participating in the Boston Marathon. The racing distance was 26.2 miles. That can definitely feel like a lifelong experience. It was hot, There were unwelcome hills, blisters, sore muscles, and feelings of "I'm so over this!" But there were some very important factors that helped me stay on this race even with all of the obstacles and make it to the finish line. It was the volunteers, and spectators supporting, offering aid and cheering us on. There were 26 aid stations with many volunteers offering water, Gatorade, and gel packs. There were other volunteers offering bags of ice and Vaseline. But there were also the amazing spectators. Many people offered food, drink, a hose spraying onto the street, a balloon tunnel, and  entertainment to carry us on, such as drummers and even a couple of accordion players. Then there were all the signs held up offering encouragement. They said, "You're stronger than you think," "You Got This," "Keep on Going," "Dig Deep," "You can do this," "Believe," "I like your smile," "All toenails go to heaven," and my personal favorite, "I Love You" (He said these words while holding the sign :)) Some of the spectators encouraged us by calling out "Head up," and "Run Happy."  Towards the end of this race is a particularly challenging section called, "Heartbreak Hill."  During this leg we were greeted by college students with infectious enthusiasm. They seemed so excited for the chance to cheer us on. If I waved to one of them, they would excitedly look me in the eye and cheer loudly. Many held out their hands hoping for the chance to get a high five.

Each of these spectators/volunteers had their own unique ways of offering their support-some used humor, others inspiring words, their talents, their time. Just like in life, we all have our turns going up "Heartbreak Hill." And we also have the opportunity to be the support and cheer each other on. Thanks, Boston, for showing us how it's done.
